what to do in eqcollector to collect data :
we assume here that you installed eqcollector and that eqcollector is working
now do these steps :
1) launch eqcollector before you launch everquest
2) open TOOLS/COLLECTOR in the menu
3) select in the collectors window, Item Collector, and Zone Collector, and Mob Collector with CONTROL + Mouse Click on them
4) in the Available logs window : uncheck all but Zone at the top, check Rename and Create text dump at the bottom
5) now launch Everquest and collect the logs of the zones you want, see below what to do for the type of log you want
6) when finished, quit Everquest
you'll see that there will be new logs in the Available logs for each zone you entered when playing
7) select all these new logs ( CONTROL + click on their name )
hit the process button, this will rename and create the .txt for each zone
all zones that are in the available logs window are located in a .bin format in the logs directory in eqcollector's directory
all the dumped infos for each logs are in .txt in the same directory =)
collecting logs with eqcollector :
there is 3 different types of logs you can collect :
- pathing logs
good for pathing
because players are disturbing monsters, you need a full respawn and no player in the zone
( it's a challenge to take a bastion of thunder pathing log =)
and to take the most accurate pathing possible, you need to stay as long as needed so monsters have done a complete patrol
if you can't check that, 30 min in the zone should be ok
- npc_type logs
good for npc types, you need to stay in a zone as long as needed so all moving mobs have moved at least one time
it's interesting to take npc_type logs when rare named npcs are up, best npc_type logs are those where there is a lot of them up at the same time
avg time for npc_type logs is 15-20 min in the zone
here too less there is people in the zone better it is for the accuracy of infos collected
- raid logs
good for spawn tables, and spawn points, raid events
you need to stay as long as possible killing monsters quickly to get a lot of respawns, you can die =)
for collecting a script event, you need to stay all the event =) so don't die !
logs like this can be 1 to 3 hours logs
some advice :
don't stay more than 3 hours in a zone, it will make a too big log unreadable because of its size =)
for pathing or npc_type logs, you should try to take them when people is sleeping or working or after a server down time for example =)
PS : to collect the data you just have to sit or fd somewhere, you don't have to do anything special, for pathing and npc_type logs i mean
to distribute your log :
1. dump your .bin log in eqcollector into .txt dumped format (done if you follow the "what to do in eqcollector to collect data" steps )
2. rename it like this :
yourname-zonename-log type-information on spawns.txt
for example :
sandy-potactics-raid-raid on rallos zek.txt
or
sandy-ssratemple-npctype-emperor and high priest ups.txt
3. zip it
if you zip several logs, rename the zip like this:
yourname-x logs.zip
where x is the number of logs in the zip
or use an apropriate name like for example :
sandy-pop logs.zip
4. then come in mirc in #npcmovdb to give your logs to us and to get feedback =) or upload your files directly at this address :
