Default Possible Quest Question

I have been looking at the idea of making my server more friendly to solo play and I have a few ideas.

1. I want to add some potions and food & drink that will regenerate health and mana during non-combat (yes like in WoW) I can then place them on vendors in major cities and even make some changes to trade skills to create them.

2. I would like to have some NPC's in a couple major cities that can be hired to help you out. They would become your pet for as long as your logged on and would have a price to pay them. There could be warriors and clerics and maybe some other class if it was needed and they would help in combat just like a normal pet would.

I see the first idea as easy and I'll be doing that soon. My question is the second idea... is there a way in perl to make an event that when the npc is hailed and given the proper money he will then be bound to you? I was thinking that you could have the event direcharm activate or something to make it easier. I like the idea in eq with the vet awards and one is a pet that heals and buffs you... this is what im going for.

That's a great idea Hayward, and I'd definately be interested in it if you get it working...

Maybe designing a new set of pet spells and having them self cast said pet spells on you when they are given teh proper amount of money? not sure how hard it is to design new spells but that would eliminate the need to use DC (not sure if it's working yet, and if it is, not sure if it works on 47+ mobs /shrug)

Anwyays just a thought, good luck!

you could make a perl script to make a pet for client..
quest::givepet(npcid); or something like that.

just a thought..

Is that an actual statement that perl recongnizes? I guess thats why I came here with the question, i just don't know perl well enough to venture out alone. I'll work on that through the guides and see what I come up with.
I like that idea a hell of a lot better because then multiple people could have pets npc's at the same time... however there would need to be a check on weather or not you already had a pet. that would also make it possible to have just one NPC that you pay and he contracts the work and gets you a hired hand that could be one of any number of npc types.

Thanks alot for the ideas.

I am deep into the quest writing because I find it fascinating. This Wiki helped me a lot (still is). Not sure if it's up to date, but I'm sure 95% of it is still accurate.
