Default my only request make the zones stop crashing!

eqemu has been around how long and they still havent pinned down excessive zone crashing. in a normal 24hours at least 20-50 zones crash seems like way to much to me maybe 1 a day or maybe a week. also would someone set the UAC and vista error reporting in precompiled copys XD not like its hard.

The last time a zone crashed on me was months ago, and was because I made an improper entry in my database. Other than that, I would forget or miss database updates posted in the changelogs.
So in the time I've been here (2 years?), this has happened to me maybe 2-3 times, and always was my fault. I would think unless you have 100+ players on at the same time, and I doubt even PEQ server has this many zone crashes, the problem is with you, and not the emulator.

If you are having that many zone crashes per day, either your server can't handle the load (low stats), or there is something you have on your server that is causing the problem. One thing to check into is to see if you have any items with focus effects that are "unknown". Anytime an item with an unknown focus effect is worn and a player casts a spell, it will always crash the zone.

This would be the case if you allow summoned items or have items in your loot tables with effects past Titanium. To fix that, either remove the unknown effects from the items, remove the items from your loot tables, or maybe try updating your spell file to live so that at least the server knows what the effect is even though the client won't. Then, it should stop crashing due to that reason. It would be nice if there was an update to the code to ignore unknown effects so it doesn't crash on them.

I second this. My server is hardly ever down and the only time I've had any zone crashes were my fault for not having the proper database entries. My zones have been very stable, hell my whole server seems rock solid.

It's most likely a crash specific to something you're trying to do with your server. Low stats could always be a problem but it's more likely you'd notice *crippling lag* first. With some more info I'm sure people would be willing to help get it resolved.

None of those errors look to be zone crash related. Maybe you are looking at the wrong log file. I don't run my server on windows anymore, so I don't know which one you want for sure.

Is it 1 particular zone that is crashing, or all of them? If it is just a couple of zones, it could be something set wrong with a quest or some other database issue you are having. Otherwise, you should make certain that your players don't have items that have unknown focus effects. That will crash zones every time. You could download the spells file from live (there are links directly to that file somewhere in these forums) and use that for your server spell file in your eqemu directory. Then, if the crashes stop, you will know that it is related to this focus effect issue since those are defined in the spells file.

Other than that, you might want to mention anything you have done that might be considered out of the ordinary when creating your server.

Possibly your expecting too much from your server?

Oh ya, didn't even think about that... If you are running both the WoWemu and EQEmu from the same PC, you are most likely going to have some sort of issue. As long as the ports don't overlap, you should be ok in that aspect. But, running both at once is bound to cause performance issues. Try shutting down the WoWemu server and see if that makes a difference on your zone crashing. I bet it will.

with everything running i use 0-5%cpu and like 1 gig of my 2 gig of ram and this has been happening sence i started running eqemu. its not just one zone but it seems to happen mostly around high lvl players usualy as there changing zones. wowemu runs perfectly useing 100meg of ram total and then theres eqemu running like 25 zones useing like 800meg of ram crashing like a mofo. its definatly player related it seems like sertan players crash more then others do.

its definatly not performance related i would have noticed long ago im not new to computers..... unless 10 years tech work is "new" and knowing visual basic and c++ programming. i realy hate the stupid 5 min edit timer.....

well consider the posability that the concurent running of wow and eq is the source of the problem...
which btw don't surprise me since wow is the source of all evil

If it isn't related to running bother server on the same box (which it most likely is), then the only other thing I can think of is that you might not have enough ports set to be forwarded on your router. If you have 25 dynamic zones setup to run, you will want MUCH more than 25 ports to be forwarded. I run 25 zones and have 100 ports forwarded for it (7000-7100) and it works perfectly.

The problem is in the way new zones are started. If you set the number of ports being forwarded to the same as the number of zones you boot up, then if 1 zone crashes, almost every zone after that that tries to start will crash as well. This is because it tries to use the next available port that is higher than the highest in use. If you have all of them used up, then it won't be able to load another dynamic zone.

This might not be your issue, but it is all I can think of atm.

I got a question for ya; how come you can bash, insult, use foul language on the members here, then have final word and close the thread?

Ya, I didn't see the updates to that thread until now after it has been closed. If I had known your server was being ran on a laptop, I would have mentioned that it could be a possible reason for your zone instability. Sure, laptops can have similar stats to PCs, but due to them being made especially to be compact, you will never get the same performance from a laptop that you will with a PC of similar stats. Laptops just aren't made for hosting servers with anymore than minimum usage. I am sure they can handle a small load perfectly fine, but expecting them to handle anything of significance will most likely result in issues.

I still get zone crashes on my server from time to time and it's stats are far greater than your laptop. Though, I also have quite a few more players on my server, but still the CPU hardly ever breaks 25% utilization and the RAM normally doesn't go much over 1GB (out of the 3GBs I have).

So, even though your stats might seem ok and it doesn't seem to be running a heavy load, apparently other things can come into play and cause zone crashes.

I don't think the comments you made in the closed thread were warranted at all. IMO, you should take a bit to cool down and relax. I think you were reading the other posts there as an attack on you or your server, but I don't see that when reading them myself. It didn't start to get nasty until you started calling names. There is no need for drama of any sort. I am not saying you are fully to blame, but just suggesting to try to keep things civil if at all possible.

And as for making a batch file to switch between servers, it isn't involved at all. And, it would make 1 simple click from the desktop to play whichever server you want (but different icons for each).

It would be something like these 2 files to switch between servers:

servera.bat

Code:
rename realmlist.wtf realmlist2.wtf
rename realmlist1.wtf realmlist.wtf
wow.exe (or whatever the file name is to start wow)
serverb.bat

Code:
rename realmlist.wtf realmlist1.wtf
rename realmlist2.wtf realmlist.wtf
wow.exe (or whatever the file name is to start wow)
Takes about 1 minute to write them and then no more renaming or dragging or whatever. If you wanted to use more servers than just 2, that could be done as well, but it would have to be slightly different.
