Underfoot Disconnects

I decided tonight to connect to my test server using Underfoot, after seeing that there were quite a few accounts in the 'account' table without anything in the 'charname' field, just a hunch.

Glad that I did. Upon attempting to create a character using the Underfoot client (after selectiing race/class/diety, name, etc.) it simply disconnects. Here is the log:

I'm running source revision 2217, peq database 2214 with 2215 sql patch (required aa patch) on a x64 bots build (db, player and bot sql sourced with no errors -- tables are there and populated).

All applicable conf files loading, etc. I searched and came up with only one post that somewhat fits my situation, though that was a Linux build whereas this is a Windows build and there is no "-O" arguement in the makefile to be seen, thus nullifying the proposed solution in that post that I found. :/

Using MS2010 Professional for the compiler, compile seems to go without a hitch with 6 succeeds and 0 skipped/failed.

I just rebuilt my x64 test server a few days ago and have had no problems logging in to it. Did not try a new toon. will do that now and edit this.

Edit: The tutorial bug with UF still exists. I have no idea why that rule is not being applied. I have not attempted to debug it either.

Even without changing the code you can still create a character with UF as long as you unselect the Tutorial button on the log in screen. Can you not do that on your server? If not, then are you certain you are using the current patch_Underfoot.conf file? If you have been running the server for a long time and just copied in new exe files, you may have missed some changes to the .conf files.

Edit2: you should see my server in the list. connect with UF and make character with and without the Tutorial button checked, it should match what your server does.

I haven't tried disabling the tutorial button, but I assume it would do the job as you pointed out even in the old thread man, but, that method relies on those logging on for the first time and/or creating a new character to disable it. Needless to say, not many do as I had 12 accounts (with the name "Test Server" in my servers name in just 3 days), 11 of which had no characters. I'm sure if I look back at all the logs it would show they were using UF, suffice to say, it seems a large majority of players use the UF client, heh. Furthermore, suffice to say, they don't disable the tutorial.

Is there a way to have the server force the button to be in a disabled status?

The line you changed is as you know just an if then statement with only boolean based variable comparison right or no? I would need to look again. I dont imagine boolean changing from 32 bit to 64 bit, but, aren't some variable types affected by 64 bit in some manner? I'm only an old school programmer from the days of DOS where 64 bit was not an option, heck, it wasnt even in pipe dreams.

Lots of things are different with 64-bit, pointer sizes, some variable sizes, alignment, etc. If there's a packet where the alignment is suddenly off or the size of the packet changed due to someone using long where they really wanted a 32-bit int then things break.

I know everyone wants to jump on the 64-bit bandwagon, but 32-bit works all the time, and you probably won't know the difference.

I'd choose the program that can utilize more than 4GB of RAM and will utilize my 64 bit xeon and deal with, while reporting, bugs of it's operation.

You won't hear 'complaints' from me concerning the 64 bit builds though, I'm just thankful for what's available. Though, if I can help the development process in any way by essentially beta testing it, count me in.

64 bit also seems more fitting for those working under virtualization, something that many seem to do anymore from reading here. Whether or not that is the case, just another benefit of 64 bit to my understanding anyway.

Besides, running the latest and greatest is the cool thing to do man.. :p

Ah, you mean the program that will never need anywhere close to the 2gb a 32-bit process can use unless there is something horribly wrong, and which will use your processor just fine however you compile it?

Do what you will, but you should know that there is very little difference.

Are OPcodes the offsets for packets? Seems as though maybe they're off for those two values if so? If this is babble, I've yet to dive into EQEMU at the source level, besides only having just poked around it a little, so don't mind me.

Err, just noticed it being isolated to x64 Window builds (possibly linux). Odd.

There shouldn't be anything conditional there, the rule values should always be int32.

That conditional is not the problem, but i agree that the conditional should not be needed.

The problem is optimization. disable it and everything works. Will work on putting in a pragma to disable optimization for sections of code that need it later. KLS mentioned that Akkadius had something done up on this in testing once, so might get it sooner rather than later.
