Default Error 1017. Router problem?

I get error 1017 when attempting to log in to any server. Please help.

I have:
Followed install instructions perfectly
tried updating router firmware, linksys router
tried turning on/off router firewall
tried turning on/off router uPNP
tried turning on/off router DMZ
tried forwarding all ports
antivirus and windows firewall are disabled

I have windows XP service pack 2
I remember steam used to have a problem where people could not play with newer versions of their router's firmware. I wonder if that's the problem here.

#1 don't play from the steam folder. Get a clean download then copy it out to another folder so you do not get screwed if the steam package changes.

#2 Steam has nothing to do with connecting to ANY emu server. You should have a shortcut directly to the eqgame.exe file. If you are doing anything through steam, you are doing it wrong.

He mentioned steam problems, so one can assume he is using SoD and did not move it from the steam folder and it got patched / changed on him.

Check in your everquest/logs folder for a file named dbg.txt. Open that file and post that date that it shows at the top of it here. That will tell us if you are on the right version or not. Otherwise, your best bet is to probably uninstall Titanium completely, delete the everquest folder completely, then reinstall Titanium from the CDs, just like it mentions in the FAQ in my sig.

I can play Everquest on another PC in my home network, an old single core computer, but still no luck on my original dual core PC.

I've also tried to get it to run on one core by making a shortcut to runfirst.exe with this as the target:
C:\Path to EQ\EverQuest\RunFirst.exe "eqgame.exe patchme".
Still same error. Any help is appreciated.
