Pets not summoning

Well, I'm not sure what to do...

I've been tasked to update the Mage AA Host of the Elements.
Upon testing, it appears that I can't summon a regular pet after that [Edit: after using Host of the Elements AA]--even restarting the server doesn't allow me to.

It casts the spell, removes the reagent--but no pet!

I am using an unmodified svn version of 1873.

Sometimes I'm lucky and it summons a pet, but that is really weird that restarting both server and client doesn't always get things back to normal.

Well, I tried it again without even touching any swarm pets (including mage aa) and I was able to summon one pet.
Pet attacked something.
Pet died.
Tried summoning pet...no luck.
I even had GM status.

make sure you don't have /invul flag set - pets treated as self targeted spell. and if /invul flag is set, self spells don't land
