Default eqemu_config.xml for Localhost?

I want to setup a EQ server for my own personal use on localhost. I got everything set up (besides the eqemu_config.xml) and I'm positive I did it right.

The guide for editing the eqemu_config.xml was confusing for using the server for localhost.

Can someone tell me what to do for localhost?

Thanks!

EDIT:

I got it working (I think) here is what it looks like.

But how do I create a char? Do I need to have everquest downloaded? If so, how to connect the launcher to my server?

Unsure if you have figured it out but, I will respond with what I know and use.

I run a "personal" server every now and then when I feel like getting into EQ. I have it set up to run publicly, through EQEmu, or offline privately. I also play on P99 every now and then. It's quite easy to copy/paste a few files for whatever tickles my fancy.

With an offline, private server you will need a different batch file and config file in your server folder and an eqhost file, which points to the login server, in your game folder. In your server folder you will also need the compiled login server application.

If you don't have the login server application, it may not be possible to play offline. Someone with more expertise can probably guide you further.

Someone with more expertise can probably guide me further, as I have a question of my own:

What do I need to do to login to my offline local server (LAN) from a different machine?

Thanks

monstalulz, If Im gathering what your saying correctly. You have a server setup and you never downloaded the actual client to play on? To answer your question, You need to download a version of everquest either "Titanium,SoF,UF,ROF,ROF2" before you are able to access your server.

To answer adrianD, you need to setup a Private login if you want to connect to your server from over the web and not let anybody else in. Or have it setup on the server menu like normal but lock it and make your accounts Gm accounts that can login past the lock status. The private login would be easier to be honest. There is indepth instructions on the wiki page on how to do it.

Thank you for your response.

*I accidentally deleted my previous edit. Pardon my impatience.

I have had the steps for a login server completed for some time.

I cannot login from a separate machine after altering the eqhost file in a few ways.

Quote:
[LoginServer]
Host=127.0.0.1:5998
I've done it without the port setting and also the hosts IP address.

Could it be security settings?

Thanks

If you're trying to login from a local network, then you will need to setup your server to run off of your server's lan IP address, not localhost.

Basically, just change all of the addresses from 127.0.0.1 to 192.168.xx.xx - where xx.xx is your subnet.id

You should leave only your database on 127.0.0.1

It's essentially like running a publicly accessible server, with the exception that you run your own login server and there is no port-forwarding.

Running exclusively on localhost indicates that you wish to play solo on a single computer.

It's gonna want to look like this

<server>
<world>
<shortname>Some server</shortname>
<longname>Some big server</longname>

<!-- Only specify these two if you really think you need to. (read: You don't) -->
<address>where you put local ip</address> -->
<localaddress>where you put your computers IP</localaddress> -->

<!-- Loginserver information. add Admin and Password for private login to show up --->
<loginserver1>
<host>Where you put your computers iP</host>
<port>5998</port>
<account>admin account name</account>
<password>admin account Password</password>
</loginserver1>

thats the basic idea of it, and you forward your ports aswell. nobody can get into your server without you giving them your local IP address to put in there eqhost file.

Thanks again for the responses. I figured my ignorance in this could be easily rectified. I'll give it a shot later on tonight.

There's two lines of thought here.

One is using the public login server and the other is using a private login server.

Though similar, there are still differences in their setup.

Post back if you're still having issues, and please clarify how you wish the server to operate (where 'others' will be connecting from.)

I would like to have various ways to have the server setup to login:

I don't want to rely on the "standard login" to be able to play/test.

Playing/testing on one machine makes researching issues inconvenient.

Having other players on the server would be nice but, I'm afraid I don't offer any type of novelty which would attract them.

This is mainly a hobby for me as I enjoy learning about all this stuff and making it work.

*I got it to work by changing the config file and the corresponding eqhost file.

Quote:
<!-- Loginserver information. Defaults shown -->
<loginserver>
<host>192.168.15.181</host>
<port>5998</port>
<account></account>
<password></password>
</loginserver>

[LoginServer]
Host=192.168.15.181:5998
This still leaves me with a question.

How can I connect on a LAN or directly with no internet connection?

I tried the same but disconnected the internet and connected the machines together with patch cable and it did not work.

I would like functionality when when the internet is down due to a storm or something else out of my control.

Thanks
