Well, if Visual Studio won't start on its own it's unlikely to work with cmake either. I'd work on fixing the Visual Studio install first.

Make sure you've compiled the RelDebug (I think that's the name, don't remember) target and have the pdb files in the directory you run the server from in order to get a useful stack trace.

AFAIK the long name is what shows on the login server and the short name is what is used for ini files. If you want it to say something different, change it.
