I tried making a copy of a spell once, but it just erased an already existing spell.

well you must did something wrong =)
as I have made over 400+ custom spells all based on copying an existing spell

I do all my spell work in Bleh
basicly I have not yet upgraded server to a version which uses Db spells, as I did not wanted to bother with exports/imports yet

but all my customs work fine so far

Make sure you weren't using the same existing spell ID as the one you copied. You need to set the first number to a unique number (spellID) or else it will just overwrite the spell you are copying.

I mean I chose copy spell, and then it erased some wizard nuke that wasn't anywhere near it in ID
