Vista and Windows 7 apply special permissions to the Program File and Program Files (x86) directories.

The best and easiest thing to do is to move your EQ install somewhere else, like c:\eq where those special restrictions do not apply. This will save you many potential headaches.

If you don't want to move it then you'll either need to run notepad as administrator, or copy the file out of the directory to somewhere you can edit it, like your desktop, then copy it back and replace the existing file.

thanks for the info. I'll uninstall and install like you said. I would try the second suggestion but knowing my luck i would just have further problems... God I hate Vista
