Yes, I've found the funny thing about EQ and Verant is that I can see the reason they made every decision they have made. I understand changes made to the game that have nerfed me, and I understand their business model.
If you take away the difficulty in levelling and the benefit from going up levels, people stop playing. It is a fun game.
I've seen their customer service work and help people. I've also waited 5 hours to get a guide to answer my petition. I understand the fustration, but I also know the guides are all volunteers and are just like you and I. Their hands are tied in some ways, and for good reason. They can't XP res people for almost anything, because if they did then everyone would want it.
Verant has shown over and over again that they care about their players and they have made changes to the game to make it more enjoyable. Sure, sometimes they haven't responded when their message boards were full of posts like "Yesterday, I saw a necro beat a red mob in 10 seconds solo, nerf necros bad!!". I can understand why they didn't.
I only got bored of the game after about 3 years of playing it, and only because all my friends stopped playing. I still have an account, even if I don't play at all.
However, people are starting to get bored with it, they are moving on to DAOC and other, new games. They need something new, or they won't have anyone left. So, EQ2 will come out. They'll keep EQ running for a while, so as not to leave anyone mad at them for shutting down on them. But most of their customers will choose to leave for EQ2. Once users of EQ are down to nearly non-existant, EQ will be shut down for good.
