I couldn't tell you what the setting is, but there is also a setting that if you set wrong will make some ui elements, like the character screen not show up.
I was trying to install a copy of Titanium and configure it to use absolutely minimum stuff to just use for a Bazaar character, and I somehow got my character select panel to not show up at all.
But I was kind of dumb and changed all the settings in one fell swoop, so I don't know what caused it. And haven't really bothered with it since then.
I know thats not a lot of help, but you might try reverting any settings changes you have made recently.
