The best way I have found to work around that is to set a WP directly before the one I want them to actually speak at. Then, just set the NPC to speak when leaving the WP right before it, so it appears like they are saying it right when they get there. It takes a bit of planning out your grids for your events, but it isn't very hard to get used to.

Also, as another little tip; if you want an NPC to face a certain direction when it arrives at a certain point in it's pathing, you can simply step on the point you want them to stop at and face the direction you want them to face, and then take a small step backwards and make your WP there, then step forward and make the actual WP. Or, if you have them on a patrol grid you can use #goto then, create your WP on their spawn point, then take a small step back and create another WP and then go on about creating the rest of the grid. That will make sure that when they return, they always face the way you want them to face. I commonly use that technique when I have NPCs that are meant to stop at certain spots, or if they are set to go somewhere and come back. It's nice to have them facing the correct way. For an example of that, you can check out the City Tour Guides I have setup in Crescent Reach on my server if you have SoF and want to get a better picture of what I am saying.
