Default Assigning quest to NPC

When assigning a quest to an npc is there anything that needs to be done to the quest to get the npc to use it? I have a fight for a mob that was made, it worked on the person's server who made it but I can't get it to work. All I did was change the .pl file to the name of my npc and put it in the quest folder for the zone it is suppose to spawn in and it does not work. I'm down a #dbspawn xxxx for the npc. Do I have to assign that npc to the zone or something? If so can you direct me how to do that? Thanks.

Change the pl file to the npctypeid of the mob. Names are finicky sometimes.

I gave that a shot, still nothing. When you a name if it is more than one word like John Doe it should be John_Doe on the .pl file correct?

The name must match exactly but even then names can fail. If you renamed it to the npctypeid and it didnt work there other things at play here(it always works with npctypeid). Either you used the wrong number or you don't have something installed right, do other quests work on your server?

You did #reloadpl right?

I didn't do a #reloadpl, but I did restart the server.

Also, maybe you should post the whole script you are trying to use. Maybe some little syntax error in it or something is breaking the whole script.

I had an issue the first time I tried to put a quest on an NPC. I was trying to create a buff bot and couldn't for the life of me figure out why the NPC wouldn't respond when hailed. I created my NPC using George's NPC Item/loot editor or whatever its called. When I created my NPC using this tool, I named him Malefic Nightbane and then attached a quest to him using the quest editor tool from GeorgeS as well. This created a .pl file named Malefic Nightbane.pl. I noticed all other .pl files used _ between first and last names so I changed the name of my .pl to Malefic_Nightbane.pl. It still didn't work until I changed the name of my NPC to Malefic_Nightbane using the NPC editing tool. Worked like a charm after that. Only thing now is that the NPC name does not show up above the NPC in game. Small inconvenience for me since its a personal private server I'm just messing around with to learn.
