Just wanted to let you know that this is in fact in issue with the AMD C-50 processor group (The c-60s as well I believe). Obviously something was changed in the way everquest works with these processors because I installed Titanium and the EQemu servers work flawlessly. (I tried p1999/ezserver/hiddenforest and had no issues getting in and mucking around).
However when I tried to patch to live to check out some new things I got the same error as you. You may want to see if you can find a copy of titanium on ebay or amazon as Titanium seems to work perfectly on my computer with zero issues. (Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5200).
In short it seems like maybe newer editions of EQ don't work with this laptop and these line of processors for whatever reason.
