Default Custom Spells Idea/Questions

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this sort of thing after reading the posting rules for here but I'll give it a try.

So, lately I have been trying to make a few custom spells and I've run into a problem and I am wondering if doing what I want is even possible.

I want to make a spell that works either as worn or as a focus effect that makes other damaging spells I cast heal me for a portion of the damage dealt. I understand I can make lifetaps but that's not what I'm after. I just want it to be a focus that effects all the normal spells I cast. I feel like it might be possible but I've not been able to find any sort of source of information regarding spell creation in detail. What I mean by that is I'm using Null's spell editor which is great, but I don't exactly understand what all of the Effect Types do, or what "Min" "Max" or "Special" do for each individual Effect Type. So IF this seems possible to somebody else or if you know for a fact that it's not it would be helpful to know.

Another thing, I made a spell that does physical damage in an area using the Effect Type "AEMelee" which works really well, so I've got my full damage being dealt to as many targets as are near me but I can't figure out how to make it work as a worn or focus effect, I have to cast it for it to do anything for me. Just a few things I would like to ask about so any help would be fantastic.

Thanks.
