Most of these ideas I had years ago before many servers at all existed, and I know a few people that will vouch for me. I remember annoying Quagmire back then because I wanted to implement true random items. Back when the shared memory feature was just being implemented.

Furthermore, I've had more than one server dev contact me and ask me questions about my implementation. If I were trying to be competitive, I wouldn't have taken the time to reply and answer the questions they had. I even spoke with one over skype.

I'm not creating this server to take a stab at anyone, I absolutely love game development and have been planning this a long time coming.

I started out writing some code for another server here that I won't mention. In doing so, I realized how far eqemu had come. I began to re-familiarize myself with the code base (Which I'm STILL in the process of.), and lots of those ideas started coming back. I had only played on/read about 3 servers prior to creating my own.

I'm literally creating this server for the love of it. I'm creating something that I would enjoy playing myself. I have a strong vision and I will not be ashamed of it nor will I apologize for it.

That being said, I hope that everyone else's server succeeds. I will try to help the community as much as I can.

I have tools that I've created specifically for Damoria development that I'm considering releasing for mass use (When I work all the bugs out of them.)

A spell editor influenced by Null's spell editor, and the peq editor. It handles dbstr_us as well as the mysql database and spells_us. Btw, thanks whoever created the spell encyclopedia as I've incorporated it.


A feature rich item editor that was also influenced by the peq editor, I've just expanded upon these tools.
Lecht, the comment was director to DiabloQuest, as you may have saw, we are making a Diablo Server with Diablo 1, 2 and 3 present the idea and post that was called to attention was the Diablo 3 aspect of it, your mobs have the random stuff on them, which reflected a Diablo 3 type approach, as I've stated in my threat of DiabloQuest, I in NO WAY am competing with you, or any other server. I felt undercut when I saw this server come up, key word is FELT here. I don't anymore. Jahar and I realize that we are not the only ones to think of an idea such as, and we expected other people to breach it, but the thing that slowed both of us down was the effect on the NPC's.

I again would like to say, Lecht, DiabloQuest, Jahar, myself and NONE of our Developers are angry, or wanting to compete in fact, we talked about perhaps talking to you in regards to a few things DEV wise.

As I also stated in my thread, I wish you luck mate. May your server advance like the rest. =)

Well I'm glad there are no hard feelings. I wish you guys the best as well. Just shoot me a message anytime with questions. These days I'm particularly busy, but I'll try to respond in a timely manner.

I have to say I'm loving the Diablo 3 style mob affix randomization you've got going on. D3 had it's faults and I've stopped playing it entirely at this point, but I think that was one the better and more clever game design things they did with the game overall unfortunately it had way to many issues that did ultimately spoil the game itself.

Imho
who cares who copies who.. So long as the names ate different.. people will implement the same thing in different ways. the non paying customers will decide which is better. as the real market... competition forces quality improvement.

Im surprise it took over a year for people to start copying my monster race ideas. my code has been available on github for a while.

As a result. im motivated to implement some more things to improve my server

No one is copying your "monster" idea bro. I had it over 3years ago but didn't have the expertise or time (or money) to facilitate it.

I do now, and am making great strides ! Your code you have on github just pointed me where i should be looking. I've made quite a few improvements over the original idea and implemented it differently than you so .

Either way, I don't see how several servers of the same idea are bad so long as no one is stealing code to do it!

Like you said, competition breeds quality!

I think you juat agreed with me.

Ultimately eqlive will poof as it becomes less profitable. and youll see x1000 the number of servers.. people will host their.own portals etc...

When that happens. those of us who are still around will have the opportunity to really be motivated. probably by working together. or at least getting some real data on what context people want to play.

That said. some of the more special servers will find their.niche playerbase. at last.
