Default hello

obviously i am new... I cant figure out how to work any of this. i have followed all the posts and stuff, and downloaded all the files i think i need. im not tech savvy, so i have a few Q's
1) do i need to put all those files i DL'd into the EQ directory?
2) how do i use item editor? (it has no exe)
3) do i need a linux machine? i dont even know how to begin to use linux
4)i currently have 3 eq directories. one from LONG LONG ago, (says wrong version run update patch) one from some time ago, which has Luclin login screen, (also says wrong version) and one that is totally current with the jan 9 patch =(
5) how do i start anything? if the least, i would love to fiddle around with item editor

1) No, make a new folder (ie: c:\EQEMu)
2) When you extract the 4.1 emu, it will have a folder called ItemEditor, the exe is in there
3) Windows and Linux both work
4) You can 't play the emu till they fix it, this last patch broke it
5) Again, the last patch broke the emu, but you can still create items, you just won't be able to test em. Read the readme, it will tell you how to set up the database, once you do that you can use the item editor.

No ETA for when the emu will work for the jan 9th patch, so please don't ask and be patient, it will be worth the wait
