Do books work in the current EQEmu version?

Even though I sourced books.sql (which has just about every book and note in EQ) I cannot seem to get books to work in 0.4.1, or in previous versions. Clicking or double-clicking on them does not bring up the book text window, though it does sometimes cause very brief HD activity, which indicates that something is happening (maybe the server is reading in the book text, but the signal to open the window isn't being recognised)?
This is the case with all books and notes I've tried, and all of them I know to be in books.sql.
I do seem to remember that books worked in an earlier version of EQEmu, before 0.3.0 I think.

Anyone else having this problem or is it just me?
