You guys will have to tell me what kind of applications you run these days where your *CPU* is the bottleneck... and so much so that you would actually prefer one over another for performance! :P

Im sticking with Intel's from now on.. I used AMD for ages, but got tired of chips that you had to replace weekly. AMD's QA on their chips has gotten horrible, I dont know how many chips I've had to replace. Seems like everytime I changed my fan, thermal compound, motherboard, etc, i ended up having to RMA my AMD's.
I had my own computer company for a few years, and I moved alot of AMDs, and it amazed me how many came in DOA compared to Intels, and how many I was replacing after a year.
Intels run alot cooler, and they still maintain a slight lead on AMD's performance wise, even at a higher cost, and they seem to be alot more rugged....

I've been an AMD user for years, but here's my 2 cents...
With Intel's new technology it is hard to choose otherwise.
Imagine a processor with 800mhz FSB and Hyperthreading (I'll Explain)
First of all you have the enormous speed of the FSB which will increase performance exponentially, then you have Hyperthreading. Hyperthreading allows an operating system to execute 2 threads in parallel.. This basically acts like a dual processor system with an actual Physical processor being your first CPU, then an addition logical Processor being your second processor.
Now take AMD's technology.
Newest chips will have a 500mhz FSB and max out at a low frequency which by default on their chips is overclocked anyway which makes the processor run extremely hot. Also they offer nothing similar to the Hyperthreading technology giving them another disadvantage. Overall there is nothing really to say in defense of the AMD because it is obviously the lesser of 2 technologies.
With this information I don't believe any right minded person could choose an AMD over an Intel.

I'm going to go with Intel aswell. The higher FSB frequency (800 MHz) allows for a greater data transfer. If you cut that in half like athlon did, you are creating a bottle neck. I've never owned an athlon, but I have a P3 866 MHz and it works fine. PERSONALLY, I think anything over 1.5 GHz is a little over kill. I'd never use all that processing power to it's full potential. For a server, that's a different story. I'm just one of those people that doesn't need top-of-the-line computer stuff. i'm too cheap and it doesn't suit my needs
(there was a posting error, if this is a double post, i'm sorry)

Lol i Like AMDs becuase someone better then Intel, Intel is good for server, databases. i got a 1.6 intel P4 and a AMD 1700+(1.47Ghz) i loaded UT(not 2003) on both of then and ran it i. and joined them both to the same sever. The intel computer had a lower ping, but the AMD computer got higher FSP and it ran better
there is no way i could test a AMD 3200+ and intel P4 3.06 i aint got the money lol

here are some links about why AMD is better lol
http://www.computing.net/cpus/wwwboard/forum/5516.html
some people in the link dont know what there talking about
Here is one about amd:
http://www.devhood.com/messages/mess...thread_id=9410
i have herd that intel CPUs are hotter then the AMD CPUs my Athlon XP 2600+ (2.08GHz) only runs at 100F(full load) my intel 1.6 runs about 115F(Just setting there) with the same heat sink
if you like intel and think it is better find some links and post em here
EDIT: Here is a link that is about intel that is just worng and i can prove too I got woth this 2.0Ghz computer i am on now in 3dmark2001 i got over 15000 i can take a screen shot
Line is here to that intel page
