Well, if you patched the live patch from the 26th, you will get this error until the fix for it is released. Read from the home page at:

The August 26 patch is not compatible with 0.5.0-DR2. If you attempt to login to a 0.5.0-DR2 server with the EQLive client, YOU WILL SEE ERROR 1017.
0.5.0-DR3 will have this resolved, and should be out within the next few days, at which time I will delete this post.
