Could you post a screen shot? It could help us solve your problem visualy.
EDIT: As I recall I remember when i reformated my C:\ drive. I had EQemu and EQlive on my partioned E:\ drive. Then I would get string errors or such and block symboles as letters. Could be your directX files. Try updating them. If not ( if im not mistakin) your registry...
But try updating your direct X files at mircosoft.com . If you have Windows as your OS.
