Default Guess you guys didn't like my last post.

All I was trying to say in my "whiny" way was that this process is so slow why bother? EQ is dying and IMHO this emulator should just be shut down. I understand that you guys are working hard to get this thing finished. I was just saying it's not fast enough. Not trying to be mean unlike all you flamers. Well whatever, you guys want to get thing finished that's fine. It's just not that many people are willing to wait for it. Well atleast you'll have all your "loyal" supporters to play it when it's done. Flame away you dirty bastards!

You're going to die eventually, so what's the point in doing anything?

No, that is not what you were saying in your other post. You were calling our emulator "crap". The post was quite clear, and cannot be confused with what you are trying to say here.

everquest dying ? People said that for ultima online and it's still have over 150 000 customers and a new expansion and this game is 6 year old with crap graphic/PVE content.
What's make a good online game is his players not his age , everquest won't "die" before a while , even with WoW and stuff coming.
Everquest will have a new graphical engine in a few month , and more and more people play it I don't it loosing people before at least 1 more year. Your whole statement is stupid , no game really die anyway hell I still play colonization and civilisation :P. About the "loyal" supporter I guess they won't miss you if you don't come back.

Whether EQ is dying (or is it dieing?) is irrelevant, in fact if it does die, then the purpose of EQemu becomes more relevant as it is preserving a piece of computer game history. EQ is a milestone in the genre and I am sure there are people who in years to come, would like to run around Norrath 'for old time's sake'.

Actually, if you knew anything and decided to do some research, EverQuest has been climbing and are at one of their highest peaks right now. It wasn't until recently late 2002 or early 2003 (can't remember) when they hit 100,000 on at one time.

This emulator isn't dying either, you're just impatient.

And if anything, why are you here? If you're here to complain that this should be shut down, go somewhere else. No one is keeping you here. And for the people not willing to wait for it, instead of whining like the fourth grader you are, how about you DO something before you start crying about the progress speed.[/img]

Speak for yourself brotha. Dont discourage these guys because how are they NOT doing an awesome job? Im surprised on the functionality on the whole project! Try it out sometime, Its comparable to live, if not surpassing it due to the easy availibilty AND support that comes at NO cost.

lordnoob, finish high school before going intellectual on us...

Your reasoning isn't very clear, and you don't supply evidence of your claims. Why would you try to convince us to stop creating the emulator? Is there a more urgent emulator crisis elsewhere? What's the purpose of your support for shutting down eqemu? You make blank generalities with no support to a crowd that either disbelieves you, or knows for a fact that you are wrong. Do you do well in English class? I sure hope not...

So, rather than asking "what's the point doing eqemu", you should ask "what's the point of my post?" What exactly are you trying to do here?

I read the boards almost everyday. And I usually never post, Because my answer are almost ALWAYS somewhere on the boards... I believe the devs and the worldbuilders etc. do a damn good job at answering what intelligent questions come along... and as for your opinions, No one cares what you think, Because you sure as hell aren't helping things, So leave the dev team alone, Stop your bitchin, because the "loyal" supporters are tired of listening to your crap.

Okay, lordnoob. Being that you are most likely just a common troll, I probably shouldn't even bother, but here we go anyways. Let's digest down your points:

1) Not enough updates. New release is coming too slowly. People are losing interest.

Roight. First of all, I'm not even going to point out the idiocy of complaining about the irregular release of a free, open-source project, as that is essentially like bitching because people aren't giving you enough charity. Secondly, the reason it's 'not fast enough', is, in essentially simple math. Remember that thing your teacher was talking about in grade school, before he give you that shiny paper with the "F" on? Yeah. Math. M-A-T-H. You see, the amount of time it takes to finish a project is determined by a very simple equation.

T = W / AP

Or, Hours of Time Left = Work Left divided by Amount of People Helping times Average Amount of Work Per Person and Hour.

Still with me? Eyes glazing over? Well, I'll try to make it simpler. You know how when you're skipping school and buying beer from a hobo along with your buddies, and there is a lot of you, the beer gets drunk faster?

Like that. You see, VI are being hell with patches. LoY introduced a whole redo of the opcodes and structures (hundreds of hours of work for us), a number of new systems, a new race, and other things. LDoN introduced a completely new instancing system and a utter change to the item structure. Compared to the rather minor things they changed with PoP, Luclin, etc, this is *huge*. Not ONLY do we have to recreate and adapt to what they programmed, we have to figure out *how* they did it before we can do anything at all. This means additional hours of packetcollecting alternatively begging a sometimes rather unhelpful fanbase for packetcollects. Furthermore, the devs whose work we are trying to replicate get *paid*. You know how your parents get money so you can eat? That stuff.

2) EQ is dying. You should quit the EMU.

Hooboy. This one was just grand. First of all, let's take a look at the amply stated example Ultima Online. This game has several more years on the neck than EverQuest, an ancient game engine... and 150k subscribers all paying their monthly fees. What more it has a developed and alive EMU community. Want proof?

http://www.runuo.com/
http://www.dmbdev.net/uoxp/index.php
http://www.sphereserver.net/

And that's not counting POL and all the various UOX mods like LoneWolf.

In the world of mods and emulators, EQemu is still a baby. Now, as for EQlive dying...

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/everq...w_6030604.html

This is from summer 2003, and lists the amount of accounts on EQlive to half a million. Last I checked, no other competitor has even broken the 300k line yet. So unless half the accounts melted away in a few months, I don't think SOE needs to worry. But yeah, you're right. They're down to their last half a million accounts. Better just shut the game down.

Finally 3) Not many people are willing to wait for it.

Amazing! Not only have you quoted erronous facts, not ONLY have you made hollow arguments, you are also a victim of split personality. I mean, because I don't see any "others" speaking up or any proof of this majority of fanbase that isn't willing to wait that you quote. See, if I say..

"The majority of the world's population thinks you're a fucking moron."

... that has the same argumental value as your statement above. Except, with one important difference... I'm not strenghtening your argument every time I post.

I think we got the point out clear and I don't think he even planned on coming back. So I think this should be locked.
