I'm sorry you are having so much trouble. You may be the person I was watching on the server having a hard time getting on yesterday.

By "crashing" do you mean going back to the server select screen, character select screen or crashing to desktop and having to start the program up again? Do you get any error messages? Have you tried creating a new character and getting on with it? Have you tested other servers to see if it happens there?

If it consistantly happens, I would check the version of directx you are running and update it if you don't have the most recent version. You might want to check your video drivers. Sometimes just rebooting can solve irritating problems like this.

Next thing to check is memory use. The EQ client is a memory hog. If you don't have a lot it can crash when it runs out! Go into the options screen (the one before you connect to the logon server) and turn off options. Deselect special luclin models (I'd keep the horses tho <grin>). Reduce the resolution, take it down to medium or even low. You can always try putting these things back one at a time once you get it working.

What else is running? Shut down everything but only what you NEED. Especially anything else that might be using a lot of memory, DirectX or graphics oriented..

Last thing I can think of is using the built in windowed mode with the EQ client. I tried it. Didn't like it. There is something wrong with it, can't put my finger on it... I just don't trust it. Go full screen or use EQW if you want it windowed. In my opinion, either is a better choice than the built in windowed mode.

Maybe I should try making one of these servers...
