I just did this with one of my machines. I patched yeturday (to get the map files) only to find that it messed up the login process (client now sends a 0x0254 opcode or something).
Anyway I replaced the eqgame.exe and UI (uifiles??) directory. Both of those replacements came from a computer that was patched up excluding this latest patch. I played using that install for about two hours so I am pretty sure it will work well.
As a side benefit you get to see the new loading screen from GoD and still play EqEmu
