Default Problems with Zone9x.exe

OK, here's the latest problem in my large string of problems (though I have everything else working at the moment, which is good)...

I can connect perfectly well to my own server, either through minilogin or through the eqemu.org login system, but then two issues arise...

First, it takes about 20 minutes for the server to load to the character selection screen, which is, as far as I'm concerned, quite excessive, and I'm wondering if it normally takes that long for everyone else as well or if it's just me.

Then the character creation process works fine and I enter the world with a character, which takes a little longer than I'm used to with EQLive, but not so long that it worries me.

After that, the character enters the zone and things seem to be working well except for a serious lack of connectivity and I subsequently get disconnected (being disconnected from the localhost is really unusual to say the least).

I do not have this problem in the least when I connect to anyone else's server through the eqemu.org login system, only with my own server, and when I connect to my own server through minilogin.

So all I can think of is that the Zone9x.exe program isn't working quite right or my computer is such an archaic piece of chit that it can't handle the strain on the proccessor.

I'd really like to get this working as soon as possible so that i can start playing around with and learning database editing so I can eventually create my own zones and spawns and quests and custom items and such, not to mention the fact that I'd like to have account GM status of 200 without asking someone to trust me with that level of power on their server.

So if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, any help would be appreciated.

If you want to see the contents of my db.ini, loginserver.ini, or boot5zones.win9x.exe files, I'll post them, but I've posted them on several occassions in previous posts (i.e. "Min Sys Requirements???" and "Problems getting minilogin to work" and "Error 1017 wth DB9") so you can look them up there rather than having me repost them here ad taking up more server space for the repeat info.

Thanks,
Kyouchou

I'm guessing it is just too much for your system. Try it with all the Lucin and Velious stuff off and see how it does.

I'm not sure how much that will help... I have nearly all luclin stuff off and I don't even own velious... I'll try disabling the luclin stuff though and see what happens...

Thanks for the post

OK, I ran two experiments...

First, I disabled all of my Luclin models except for the Vah Shir ones which cannot be disabled... Then I tried to connect again... Things loaded a lot faster (still a little slow, but not too bad), but I still got disconnected.

Then the second experiment... I tried to completely minimize my CPU usage as much as possible by closing down all unnecessary programs running in the background on my system, minimizing all windows to the task bar, restricting my frame rate to 30fps, and only running ONE Zone9x.exe rather than all five. This worked pretty well... Lasted 15 minutes before I got disconnected . Actually, 15 minutes is a comparitively long time.

So, I thik it's safe to say that this problem I'm having is totally a result of the fact that my proccessor is a slow ass piece of obsolete shit. So until either A: I get a new computer (wich may not be for another 6-12 months), or B: the dev team finds and implements a way to make the entire EQEMu system less CPU intensive, then I guess I'm just shit outta luck.

So it's back to EQLive for me until on of those two things happens, but I'll probably pop in on occassion to see what's new

To everyone who has helped me with any or all of my numerous problems trying to get this to work for me, thank you!!! Sincerely, thank you.

Good luck to the dev team, the world builders, and the players of EQEMu, may you all have far better luck than me .

Take Care Everyone,
Kyouchou

AMD K6-2/300MHz proccessor

512MB RAM

Win98 SE

average connection speed of 48K (changes from anywhere between 44K and 52K--pretty damn good for dial-up but still shitty after having DSL once upon a time) but that won't matter with minilogin

But after everything I've done, the only thing that seems to make a difference in how long I stay connected is how much proccessor power I use aside from EQW, so it's pretty likely that 300MHz is just too slow... I need to upgrade desperately anyway, but being out of work for two years kind of breaks the bank.

LOL yeah I know actually, with the exception of an archaic CPU and mainboard it's not too terribly bad a system, but it doesn't meet min sys requirements for EQLive (though I don't seem to have any serious problems as long as I keep my graphics options in game down to a minimum), but with EQEmu it's another story... With the emulator, I have to have running more than just EQ software, but also World.exe, and Zone9x.exe times 5. I'm sure I can probably play perfectly well on another person's server and I may do that off and on, especially if I want to explore zones that I don't have access to in EQLive cause my character is a weak ass lowbie. But as far as running my own server for others to use or even for using the minilogin, I'm sol. That's the way things go though, no big deal really, I'll get over it... ok I'm over it .

Oh, that reminds me... does anyone know of a really good public EQEmu server that has custom quests and such? I'd like to know if there is one that is well recommended. I'll probably post that question again on the general EQEmu board so no worries about answering it here

Take Care Everyone,
Kyouchou
