Default world.exe does nothing...

Hello all,

I am trying to setup a Minilogin server on a Windows XP machine. I followed the directions in http://www.eqemulator.net/wiki/wikka...=ws70845mysql5

I am using the current version of PEQ and I downloaded EQEmu 7 886 from this site. I have the database and all setup. I have searched the forums and tried a variety of the xml config files, but never get anything to work.

world.exe seems to do absolutly nothing, it opens a dos window and closes immediately. I never receive errors, or anything in the log folder.

I have searched and saw similiar issues in the forums, but couldn't locate a resolution that seems to work for my situation.

Has anyone had similiar problems?

Open a CMD prompt (start/run/cmd [enter]) and cd \eqemu or wherever you put your world.exe. Run it manually. See the errors. Fix the errors. Likely you are not getting access to your database if it closes that quick.

When I run from the batch file, cmd prompt, or clicking on it, it just closes immediately. From the command prompt I just get...

c:\EQEmu>world

c:\EQEmu>

Also, just to be sure... EQEmu 6.5 and later only use the xml file and not the ini files correct?

We need to see errors ; try running a command window: start>run>"command" >enter<

then cd to eqemu , run world.exe - this way the window won't close and you should see error.

I don't receive any error or any kind of output no matter how I run it...

If I go to the command prompt

C:\EQEmu>world

C:\EQEmu>

Nothing happens, no errors are returned... That is why I am stuck. Everyone else posting problems with world.exe gets back error messages or at least something in the log files...

Ah ha...

This might be the culprit... Just checked my event logs

Application popup: world.exe - Unable To Locate Component : This application has failed to start because perl58.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Let me get that solved, hehe... Thanks for the help, I'll see what happens...

Well I feel dumb, I downloaded perl 5.6 from activestate, instead of 5.8...

Everything looks good now, I'll have to test it when I get home...

Sorry for wasting everyones time... Hopefully this will help someone else in the future

Thanks again

Not a waste at all. In fact, it brings up yet another question. I thought (again) I read that Perl was not required any longer? There are even comments in the makefile to remove it to see what happens. heh... I still run Perl 5.8, because it's there. I am unclear if it's still a requirement for quests.
