Lightbulb Wiki Cleanup?

It looks very much like your wiki site needs a bit of cleaning up. Seems as though the spammers have gotten hold of it. Might I suggest that someone do a cleanup and write protect pages that have completed guides in them or completed lists. Would make it tons easier on the rest of us to find anything worthwhile.

Well, the best part, and worst part of a wiki is that anyone can make a account and edit it. Some people have taken the time to clean it up if they truly feel the need to clean it up. Ive done it before, but I just dont have the time at the moment. The best thing to do about is that you should make a account, and when you go to pages that peak your intrest, and you see spam, delete it as you see it. There are several pages that are not visited that have been messed with and one that was going to clean up all the pages would clean these needlessly. The wiki is a community project, and no ONE person oversees it.

Kinda trailing here, but the moral of the story is, you the reader have the power to change the wiki so if the spam is a issue for you, wipe it out on your way throuhg. Do your part to make the world a greener place.

Spam like that is usually caused by bots though. On a wiki that I used to help out with, what we would do to deal with that is

1. Install a Captcha verification system that was up to date against bots, so bots would not be able to register as easily, and
2. Require email verification. Most bot email accounts don't exist, so this narrows down the amount of spamming that can actually happen.

Exactly, or as I said, you could take the pages that you know are complete, such as the guides, etc, and make them protected.

Also, as for me cleaning it up, I would be happy to, it seems however that some of the pages either had no info to begin with or that the info was deleted, so that's kind of why I was asking here about it. I would be happy to go through and help cleanup.

If you go under RecentChanges at the top of the Wiki, there is a list of all the things that have happend.

The history will show you what was added/edited/deleted for that pages history. You can reference this if the bots remove the conent all together. Most of the bots I have seen just add the content to the top of the page, and leave all the original content in place below it.

Other key to find whats been changed is names of the changers. Bot names on the wiki are normally 6 digits alpha-numeric. Looking at it right now, today there was two bots that modded "eqhost" and "EQvercheck" pages, and if you look at thier names, you see what I mean. Yesterday, DoNoHarm went through and fixed lots of pages.

The biggest part though that deters me from jumping over there to clean it up is the lack of prevention from the dev team that has control over the core of the wiki. Features need to be implemnted to prevent bots on it. You could severly cut down the amount of junk just by my turning on email verification. Furthermore, they could give someone added control over the wiki other than a few changes here and there. Admin privleages to delete accounts to prevent spam, and stop it when it happens. We have no control over the wiki, other than to clean up the mess bots leave behind, every day, every week, every month, ect.... I for one am not going to go cleaning up the same thing every single day cause someone cant turn on a couple options to prevent such garbage.

So who is the someone who would/could turn on those options? Whoever they are, they either don't seem to care or they don't read the forums, or both.

Only people with admin rights are the developers.
