Default FC6 64bit, Compiling issues, Unknown

For a program that is mainly centered around *nix It confuses me as to why it compiled in windows 900 times better then on *nix.

First I had
CPU you selected does not support x86-64 instruction set

Changed march to k8 (this really should already be their just selected based on what th ecpmpiler finds.)

Now I recieve the following and am extremely tired.

The problem is not really Windows versus Linux, but 32 versus 64-bit. If you tried 64-bit Windows I am not sure you would have much more success. But 64-bit Windows is hardly common so the point is moot.

I remember trying to compile and run EQEmu in 64-bit some time ago. I could more or less fix the compile errors, just to have the emu crash on startup (Segmentation fault). I did not investigate further and ended up installing a 32-bit chroot on my server. If anyone has suceeded in making EQEmu run on a 64-bit Linux I would be happy to hear about it too.

Until we get this kind of answer the 32-bit chroot works fine. Or simply install a 32-bit version of Linux if you server is just for the emu.

imo using windows defeats the purpose of running a stable server, No offense but Linux is much more stable, I HAVE ran it with windows for testing purposes But could never get active perl to run right with eqemu quests.

I wish It had native 64bit support, it would be so much more stable.

EQEmu isn't optimized for 64 bit platforms, so there is no point to use it, the speed will be the same. (It may even take a performance hit, as many other apps do that aren't 64 bit optimized) Bulle's suggestion to install a 32bit chroot environment is the best one.

Ran into this problem as well... im following this guide located here https://alioth.debian.org/docman/vie....html#id250846

what this does is sets up a chroot set to run 32bit apps, you will have to setup everything inside this root after its set, im doing this as we speak and ill let you know if i can get the server running correctly

after many hours of trying to get it to work in a chroot I just decided to scrap the idea and just go with a 32bit. Went with debian i386 and it is so far working very well, and for what I want out of the box im not really missing out on much by going with 32bit
