Default Server Down?

I know this general question gets asked a lot, but I've gone through every page in the faq and done extensive research in the forums and the only thing i can think of is that the server is down:

-I get the network timeout error when I try to log in.
-eqhost.txt is configured correctly, does not have any errant spaces or carriage returns, does not have an extra .txt at the end.
an nslookup of the server yields a valid ip address (64.251.21.39)
-I added an exception to my firewall for port 5998.

any other ideas besides the server itself being screwy? this is the first time i've connected so i tend to think it's my problem rather than the server's, but what?

Alright, just tried it with another comp on the same IP and it worked fine. It must be the firewall on this computer, right?

I would recommend not to do any port stuff on your router if you are just trying to play EQEmu. It isn't needed and has the potential to cause issues. If you used port forwarding to set it, that could very likely be your issue, since only Port Range Forwarding would work properly as far as I know and even that shouldn't be set.

Also, make 100% sure you did not patch EQ even for a second when you did the first install on that PC. If it did patch, it probably got a new eqgame.exe and the new eqgame.exe will definitely cause that exact problem. You can normally tell if the problem is because you patched, because it will wait a very long time before saying it timed out trying to connect. Normally if it can't reach the Login Server and is running the right version, it will only take 20 seconds or so before it says it timed out.

I am Shuttlesworth roommate and have been working on the problem. After trying a complete uninstall and reinstalling the same problem is occurring, any other ideas?
