Default No eqhost.txt file

I recently downloaded SoD from direct2drive and installed it. I was unable to find the eqhost.txt file in the folder so I uninstalled/reinstalled again and still I have no file. Any idea why this is happening?

The only SoD client we support is the one you can download from Steam. You can check the version of your client by opening your Everquest/Logs/dbg.txt file and posting the date that the build shows there near the top of the file.

Regardless, shouldn't the eqhost.txt file be in the folder? If I download it from steam is it possible I am going to have the same problem?

I don't know what should be in the folder from that download, since I haven't downloaded, which is why it isn't supported. We can't really support something we haven't even tried yet. I would assume the eqhost.txt should be there, but there is also a chance that they expect you just to patch that in when you first connect to Live. Steam is the only one that is confirmed to have everything we need. Though, you may soon have the option to patch to Live and play on some of the servers that keep regularly updated. We have been working on it a bit and should be able to get it mostly functional with fairly little work. Though, it will probably never be quite as bug-free and functional as Titanium or the Steam SoD is. We will see.

Just downloaded SoD from Steam, activated it and made a folder on my hard drive with the sim disk backups, how do I locate the eqhost.txt file from here?

I think by default, Steam will download it to it's own folder, which is something like this:

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\everquest

I would suggest making a copy of that folder, so you have a backup, if that isn't what you just said you did.

Then, just go into the folder and eqhost.txt should be visible right in there. You can always search your hard drive for it using the search feature of explorer. Make sure you have "hide file extensions for known file types" disabled, or you will just see "eqhost" not "eqhost.txt", but either way, it is the same file so it doesn't really matter. You may want to sort your folder by file name, and then just scroll down until you get to it. There are a ton of files in the EQ folder, so make sure you look closely.

Not sure what you mean by activating it offhand, though. Just make sure you do not run EQ from the shortcut Steam creates. You need to create your own shortcut from eqgame.exe and set the patchme option like the playguide in the wiki says to.

Ok, got that to work but now I have a problem with launching EQEmuLoginServer.exe. The window opens for a second and then closes, says EQEmucrypto failed, error #126, security module load failed. The eqgame.exe shortcut launches but when I enter my info it says it is invalid.

Are you trying to run your own server, or just wanting to play on an existing server?

As far as I know I did not patch anything, when I click eqgame.exe should I be seeing the eqemu server list? I only get the sony EULA page followed by the normal eq login screen.

If you just want to play, there is no need to run the login server stuff yourself. You will need to connect to EZ Server by going through the tsahosting.net Login Server. To do that, change your eqhost.txt file to point to:

tsahosting.net:5999

Yes, you should be seeing a login screen when you open EQ. Though, if you don't have Titanium or SoF, you won't be able to register your account on the tsahosting.net Login Server. The problem is that the official Login Server doesn't support SoD yet. And in order to make an account on the tsahosting.net Login Server, you have to log into either PEQ or Storm Haven and run the #setlsinfo command from in-game, which you can't do unless you have Titanium or SoF to be able to log into the official EQEmu Login Server the first time.

The best suggestion I can think of for now is to follow these instructions and hope you can get someone to do you a favor:

1. Create a Login Server account on these forums through your User CP.
2. Set a TEMPORARY password for those accounts that you don't mind other people seeing and that you will change later.
3. Post your username and TEMPORARY password (something like "pass1234" would be fine) here in this thread.
4. Ask for someone with Titanium or SoF to log in with your account(s) and connect to either PEQ or Storm Haven and run the following command for you:

Code:
#setlsinfo name@email.com pass1234
5. Once someone has ran that command for your account(s) and replied to say it is done, try logging into the tsahosting.net Login Server with your username and "pass1234" as your password. It should work.

6. Once you verify you can connect, immediately go back to your User CP and change the password for all of the accounts that you posted publicly to get changed. This will prevent someone from being able to steal your account(s).

7. Once that is done, you will also need to log into either PEQ or Storm Haven and change your password from in-game there. You can do so by running the following command, accept set the password to something private.

Code:
#setlsinfo name@email.com mysecretpass
8. Your account(s) should now be able to access EZ server and should be secure once again.

9. From that point on, you will use the tsahostin.net Login Server and use the account names and the new password you set the last time to log into your account(s).

I hate that this has to be done this way, but until the Official EQEmu Login Server supports SoD, this is the only option. Of course, if you have a close friend that already plays and has Titanium or SoF, you can just have them register your accounts on the tsahosting.net Login Server for you, so you don't have to post the info publicly. But as long as you make sure to change all of your passwords on both this site and on the tsahosting.net Login Server, you shouldn't have to worry much about account security issues.

On steam it says I have SoF along with SoD, there is the SoF manual in the eq folder so I am assuming I have it. My host is set to the one you have listed. When I hit the launcher icon should it automatically go to the eqemu server list rather than the EULA screen? I think that may be where the problem lies, I have never had the eqemu server screen even load.

You don't have SoF, you have SoD. Even though the Steam purchase shows the SoF download being available, it is actually the exact same download as the SoD one, it isn't SoF.

And yes, when you launch EQ, you will see the Eula screen, the click to accept and you get to the next screen where you click to login, and then you are prompted with the Username/Password screen where you need to be logging in at. Once you log in on that screen, you will be able to see the server list, but you will not be able to see that server list until you have a valid account and have logged in correctly.

When I log in it keeps saying username/password aren't valid even though I set up my login server account/pw. I made another one and it still gives me the same message. Are the numbers in parentheses supposed to be part of the login name? I haven't been entering those.
